The short answer
Soak overnight, drain and rinse, then boil hard for the first 10 minutes before lowering to a simmer. Cook until creamy inside: about 5 to 6 whistles in a pressure cooker or 1.5 to 2 hours in a pot. Never eat kidney beans undercooked.
