What is 1121 basmati rice?

“1121 chawal kya hota hai?”

2 min readUpdated October 2026By The Rice Guy
The short answer

1121 is an extra-long grain basmati variety. Its uncooked grains are already long, and they stretch to roughly twice their length when cooked while staying slim and separate. It is a favourite for biryani and pulao where the look of the rice matters.

Why people love it

The elongation is the headline: a plate of 1121 looks generous and every grain is visible. It is also forgiving to cook and widely available, which makes it a strong everyday basmati.

What "Kainat" and "Daghi" mean on 1121 bags

Kainat is a trade name used for 1121 basmati. Daghi 1121 is the same variety with small natural marks on some grains: it looks different in the bag but tastes the same on the plate.
